Week 63 It is Cher-as Here!

Monday July 20th, 2015

Cheras is Cher-as. I love being here, it is so sketchy and ghetto, my wildest dreams of Malaysia! Malaysia.Is.Amazing.

My new companion, Elder Baker, is older than me by a transfer and is the District Leader!!!!!! I love not being in leadership!!!!! 9 months as DL (District Leader) was wayyyy too long. It's been a really great experience to see him work, he's really a good leader. No bikes! Just walking, and a lot of it.

Well, to start off the week, ISIS has been making terrorist threats right outside our area, so the Assistants told us to duck and cover for the big Muslim holiday of Hari Raya. And then on top of that there has been a couple of riots with Muslims killing Chinese in downtown KL. Please don't freak out, we are very protected here and everything is alright. We wake up to 5 Muslim mosques every morning for exercise, yay call to prayer!!!!! Most of our area is all Muslim, so it's been kind of sketch but a lot of fun. Our apartment is nice, but is in a sketchy part of town. When we go knocking, the flats we go to are really really torn up. A total difference than Singapore, which is a nice change. We have God on our side. Booya.

The work is awesome here, at least we think so. Elder Grant, my MTC companion and also the companion who was in the area before we whitewashed it, left us a single note for us because we have no idea what is going on. He said: "Call Fredric, he knows everything". So we did, and found out he is 16, a RC (recent convert) who was baptized last Saturday and only learned from the missionaries for 2 weeks. So that is all who we have been working with this past week. I'm going to kill Elder Grant!!!! But Fredric is wayyyy sick. The coolest kid ever, he's been a huge help, and we couldn't have done anything without him.

We can contact here now too! And people actually like to listen!!!!! As long as they aren't Muslim, which is 95% of the people here. The Spirit is truly guiding us to these people and it feels so good to have so much faith and hope in God. He literally guides us everywhere, it's insane. We're seeing miracles, and hopefully we will baptize Fredric's mom next week!

Most spiritual experience this week has to be when the Spirit told me to go back to knock on some random house that we passed. As we walked away from it my legs went suuuper heavy and I knew I had to go back. So right when we ran back to the house, some guy pulled up and said he was Christian and wanted to meet! It was sweet! Way cool of a miracle!

The Funniest experience I had this week? Getting lost, terribly lost 4 times in one day. We had some good contacting because of it, but at one point we couldn't find an exit to a mall for 20 minutes.... it was really funny but really sad.

I love Malaysia, it is the best! It feels great being here and doing more work for the Lord! It's just the best, that is all I can say.

Love,
Elder Holmes
